Alphonse Little Mustache Obituary

Alphonse Little Mustache Sr., beloved husband of the late Wilma Still Smoking-Little Mustache, was called home to join her, the love of his life on February 7, 2018.
Born in 1931, to the late Noel and Maggie Little Mustache. He was 86 years old. He was truly a caring, loving soul with a heart of pure gold. Alphonse was the eldest male of the Piikani Nation. He was a Champion Calf and Team Roper, well known in the Rodeo world throughout Indian Country, on both sides of the border. He sat one term as a Piikani Nation Band Councillor, played Edmonton City League fastball, supervised the building of a Railroad, drove a Taxi, picked Fruit, travelled the Rails, and washed his babies diapers, as a liberated House Husband in the 1950’s! He was an active member of the St. Paul’s Catholic Parish, he served mass as a Eucharistic minister, Cursillo & Pilgrimage Elder, and was proud to do his 10-mile walk on Good Fridays.

His immediate family was at his side, consistently, at home, and in the care of the Pincher Creek Hospital, where he took his last breaths. His loneliness for Mom was comforted by his large extended family, to whom he took great pains to teach our traditional ways.

The family is forever thankful for our Father, Brother, Grandfather, Great-grandfather, Great-Great-Grandfather, Uncle and dear Friend. We celebrate and showcase his accomplishments and achievements.  He lived a good, long, awesome 86 years.

Al's many illnesses throughout his life, took their toll…Man, did he fight! He was a well-known man among many tribes, with many extended and adopted families. He was also respected in the Southern Alberta Community as a certified, Red Seal Master Mechanic.  He strived and overcame many barriers to gain his education, and owned automotive repair shops in Piikani Nation, Pincher Creek and Fort Macleod.  His ranch operation seen much success.  He proudly cheered on the “BAR LM WARRIORS” Relay Race Team, which is captained by his son, Mike and grandson, Brent.  He lead the dance in Siksika, which celebrated their win in the 2016, 10-mile X—country Endurance Race.

Alphonse goes to Heaven to join: his loving wife, Wilma, his son, William Little Mustache, daughters, Willena Kay and Honey Little Mustache, Lee North Peigan, Grandson & Granddaughter-in-law, Noel Big Swan & Theresa Pard, and his parents, Noel & Maggie Little Mustache, Brothers, Albert, Jr.(Eva), Bobby, & George, Sisters, Florence(Nelson) Small Legs, Joan Plain Woman, Leita(Floyd) Halls, Arlene (Bill) Willier-Marshall, Rosemary Pace, among many, many other siblings, relatives and friends.
