August “Gus” Fritz, beloved husband of Shirley for 62 years, passed away peacefully in his happy place at home on February 18, 2018 at the age of 85 years. Besides his loving wife Shirley, Gus will be lovingly remembered by his children Don (Gail), Rob (BJ) and Shar (Rod); grandchildren Chad (Danette), Brennan (Erica), Kayla (Greg), Shanna (Justin), Jordynne (Robbie), Braydon (Angela), Krista (Adam), Tanner, Kylie, Charmayne and Shania; great grandchildren Brody, Haylee, Cade, Maxon, Benjamin and Teagan. Gus is also survived by his brother Ron (Linda); sisters-in-law Erma and Ethel, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Gus was predeceased by his parents David and Katie; brothers Joe, Tom, Mike, Dave; sisters Chris, Helen, Mag, Francis and Kaye; daughter-in-law Cindy. Gus was born in 1932 in Foremost Alberta where he received his education. After finishing school, he moved to Lethbridge, where he worked at various jobs, including painting the High Level Bridge. In 1952 Gus met the love of his life Shirley. He relentlessly pursued her for three years before she finally said yes in 1955. They were married at St. Patrick’s Church in Lethbridge. Shortly after they were married they moved to the Porcupine Hills, where Gus worked as a Bush Foreman for Johnson Bros. Sawmill. Gus and Shirley welcomed Don, Rob and Shar to their family. Gus loved coaching his boys in baseball, family camping trips, hunting, fishing, curling, golfing and travelling. Gus and Shirley had just recently returned from a 10 day trip to Mexico with Rob and BJ. Following retirement Gus and Shirley escaped the Southern Alberta winter in Arizona for many years where they established many lasting friendships from all over Canada and the United States. Gus truly loved his family, especially spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
