Jacomina "Iet" Dolman

April 10, 2017 ~ April 10, 2017

Jacomina “Iet” Dolman

Jacomina “Iet” Dolman (nee Berends) was born in Amersfoort, the Netherlands, on October 20, 1932. She, her parents and her two younger brothers had many tragic and frightening experiences during World War II.

As a very beautiful young woman of 17, Iet met her life-long love, Gerrit “John” Dolman, at dance lessons on his 18th birthday. They would be together for the next 66 years. Immigrating to Canada in 1960, Iet and John and their young daughters, Elizabeth and Yolande, embarked on a journey that involved many homes in many places throughout Ontario. They were blessed with a third daughter, Anita Johanna, in 1974. In 1990 Iet, John and Anita moved to Pincher Creek, Alberta.

No matter how frequently Iet and her family moved, the first day in a new house always saw a cheery tablecloth and flowers on the table. Each of these occasions was always an adventure full of optimism for Iet. She thrived on change and, if there hadn’t been an actual move in a while, you could be sure at least all of the furniture would get moved around.

Iet was feisty and plucky and charming. Although she had a tendency to keep to herself and her family, people who met her quickly fell in love with her disarming and intense aliveness and humour.

Iet loved to knit and crotchet, warming many hearts with her beautiful creations. She loved nature, animals and birds, and especially adored her dear dogs. She leaves behind her darling Koosje to miss her and to console her family with her antics.

Left to miss her and remember her most lovingly are her husband, Gerrit “John” Dolman; her daughters Elizabeth (David Green) of Pincher Creek, Yolande (Mark Taylor) of Invermere, BC, and Anita Johanna (James Moran) of Ottawa; her two wonderful grandchildren, Alexandra Jaqueline Taylor and Dylan James Moran-Dolman; and her youngest brother, Hans (Irene) Berends, of Bellevue, Alberta.

Iet’s family said goodbye to her on April 8, 2017. They wish to thank Dr. Beverly Burton and all the medical support and EMS staff in Pincher Creek, Lethbridge and, finally, Vista Hospice, for their outstanding care and efforts to make her final days as comfortable as possible.
