Rose Marie Johnson

1922 ~ 2017

Rose Marie Johnson beloved wife of the late Gordon Johnson, passed away peacefully at Vista Village in Pincher Creek on December 11, 2017.  Rose will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Susan Calvez, sons Keith (Donna), Ed (Maria) and Cody (Muriel); grandchildren Michelle (Bob), Chris (Jan), Ashley (Paul), Brad, Sadie (Collin), Shawn (Dani), Tiffany (JY), Claire and Paul; great grandchildren Tyler, Carter, Alexandra, Janna, Nash, Paige and Kennedy. Rose will also be missed by her sisters Mary Sorgard, Mickey (Don) Cameron and Ethel Korol as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.  Besides her loving husband of 61 years, Rose was predeceased by her son Tim Johnson, grandson Darcy Johnson, son-in-law Andre Calvez and daughter-in-law Leona Johnson.

Rose’s life adventures included her early years in Hungary, working hard on family farms in southern Alberta and serving in the RCAF for three years.  She was proud to serve her country and treasured the friendships and experiences of service life. Her adventures continued when she married Gordon and began life in the Johnson Brothers’ sawmill camps throughout the Porcupine Hills. Wherever she and Gordon lived, they created a home that was an oasis for their growing family, a place to come during celebrations and times of trouble and everyday family gatherings.  Grandchildren and great grandchildren knew that visits to Grandma’s house meant cooking and sewing lessons, decorating Easter eggs, planting and raiding the garden, picking berries and happy times around the fire at the cabin.

Grandma loved the land and treasured family above all. Her greatest gift to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren is that she taught us to value these too. This legacy will continue to live on in the lives she has touched.

A celebration of Rose’s life will take place at a later date. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be directed to The Good Samaritan Society, Box 1510, Pincher Creek AB T0K 1W0. We wish to thank the staff at Vista Village for the wonderful care given to Rose; your support will always be remembered.
