They say your Mother is always with you.
“She’s the whisper of the leaves as you walk down the street, she’s the smell of certain foods you remember, flowers you pick, the fragrance of life itself. She is the cool hand on your brow when you aren’t feeling well, she is the breath in the air on a cold winters day. She is the sound of the rain as it lulls you to sleep, the colours of the rainbow, she is Christmas morning. Your mother lives inside your laughter. She’s the place where you came from, your first love, first friend, even your first enemy. But nothing on earth can separate you. Not time... not space... not even death.”
With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Joy Ann Skierka at age 47, taken away from us far too soon. Joy loved her family deeply, centering her life around her husband, Tom, and her beloved children Trentan, Shannon (Taliesen Tupper), Allison (Nav Dhaliwal), Jaclyn (Andrew Carney), and Frank. They travelled the world together, making homes in far-flung places from Abu Dhabi to Pittsburgh and from Pincher Creek to Tulsa, having incredible adventures and building memories along the way.
Joy was predeceased by her father, Robert Brister, and is survived by her husband, her five children, her mother, Nieves Brister, her mother-in-law Clara Skierka, her father-in-law Jack Skierka, as well as numerous relatives and dear friends.
Joy’s Memorial Mass will take place on Fri., Sept. 27 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church. (958 Christie Ave, Pincher Creek)
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to St. Michael’s Health Centre for their support in Joy’s final weeks.
