Sophie Carney Obituary

Mrs. Sophie Ann Carney (Lynk), died peacefully in Pincher Creek on November 16, 2019 at the age of 69 after a very courageous battle with cancer.

Sophie is survived by her husband Barry Carney , children Jason ( Tanya),  Jim ( Fatima), step daughters Sharon, Tina (Dwight), siblings Con Lynk ( Kathy ), Eileen Saruwatari ( Cary),      JJ Lynk ( Tracey), Grandsons  Andrew ( Jackie ), Adam ( Kael), Alyssa, Emerald, Nicole, and brother- in- laws Dennis Carney ( Ann), and Pierrot Valiquette .

Sophie was predeceased by her parents Claire & Murdoch Lynk, brother Murdoch Lynk , nephew Joey Lynk, sister Dorothy Durocher, in- laws Edna & John Carney, and sister- in- law Angela Carney.

Sophie was born in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, to parents Murdoch & Claire Lynk.  She graduated Donkin Morien High School, and then moved to Lethbridge, where she attended Lethbridge Community College. LCC is where she met her husband, Barry. Sophie married Barry in 1973 and in time gave birth to two sons, Jason & Jim. Being a wife, mother and auntie were Sophie's joys in life. Sophie's nieces and nephews; Candice Saruwatari Mann (David), Joey Lynk (deceased), Matthew Orich, Tim Lynk (Missy), Leah Saruwatari (Tyler), Nick Carney (Chantal),          & Tyler Carney (Angela). When she became a grandmother her reason for being here became even clearer.

Sophie and Barry built their lives in many places. They lived and worked in Lethbridge, Grand Forks, Peachland, Pincher Creek, and ultimately settling in Cowley. In each of these places, Sophie left behind many folks that she touched along the way. Sophie loved life, she loved having lots of people around and being able to sit back and observe them. Everyone she met mattered to her and she mattered to them. Sophie always had a smile, a thank you, and was sincerely willing to help anyone any time.  When Barry and Sophie opened Simply Catering,       it gave Sophie an even larger reach to her community and allowed her to make even more friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 P.M., Monday November 25, 2019 at the Cowley Community Hall, 518 Railway Avenue, Cowley, AB. Mr. Gord Pitt will officiate the ceremony.        All are welcome to attend and celebrate Sophie’s life.

The family would like to thank all the staff at the Pincher Creek Hospital, Jack Ady Cancer Centre, Tom Baker Cancer Centre, and Vista Village in Pincher Creek.

A very special thank you to Dr. Bev Burton, Laurie Scott, and the team of home care professionals that made Sophie's journey a more peaceful one. Thank you to the nurses and care workers at Vista Village for being part of Sophie's final journey with dignity and love.
