Aleda Marie Emmelkamp (deWit) was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on August 3, 2024, at the age of 97 years. She was predeceased by her husband, Herman, of 46 years in 1996. She leaves to mourn her four daughters, Christine (Brian) Nauta, Gerry (Randy †) Nauta, Joanne (Ed) Groeneweg, and Lorna (Dan) Vanee; 12 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law Wilma deWit and Joan (Albert) Zoeteman, and a cousin, Janine Winter. She is predeceased by her parents George and Cornelia deWit, her sisters and brothers-in-law, Wilhelmina and Gerrit Schmale, Reta and Ken Cote, her brother, Gerrit deWit, and her son-in-law, Randy Nauta.
Aleda was born in Fort Macleod on March 14, 1927. Her parents were pioneer farmers who immigrated from Holland in 1925 to a farm north of Fort Macleod. Aleda and Herman were married on October 20, 1949, and together they were blessed with four daughters. They later took over the family farm where Aleda lived most of her life. Upon retirement in 1994, they purchased a home in Fort Macleod. Herman passed away in 1996, and Aleda spent the next years active with the Granum CRC, especially the Ladies Aid. She was also involved within the community, joining a Ladies Bible Study, the Welcome Mat Senior’s Centre, the Hospital Auxiliary, and the Sew Sew Club. At the age 92, she moved into the Pioneer Lodge in Fort Macleod and later into Buffalo Grace Manor in Lethbridge, Alberta.
A strong faith in God helped her during the difficult times in her life. She always had a positive attitude and moved forward devoted to glorifying God in all areas of her life. Mom will be deeply missed by her family and friends and by many others whose lives she has touched during her lifetime spanning 97 years.
A Private Graveside will be held prior to the Funeral Service.
A Memorial Service will be held at Granum Christian Reformed Church, AB-519 & Range Road 260, Granum, on Monday, August 12, 2024, at 2:00 pm.
