Barbara Anne Cote passed away peacefully after a short illness, at the age of 90 years, on July 8, 2025, at the Chinook Regional Hospital.
Barbara was the second child of Sadie and Samuel Keel, born on February 12, 1935, in Niagara Falls, Ontario. Barbara married her high school sweetheart, Fred Cote, on May 19, 1956. They raised 4 children.
Barbara was a stay-at-home mother until 1971, when she was then employed doing data entry at Westinghouse in Hamilton, Ontario.
In July of 1976, her husband of 20 years passed away. A few years later, Barbara started a very successful career as an insurance agent. She pursued this career for several years before moving to Fort Macleod, Alberta in 1993. Once in Alberta, she worked for a short time in Fort Macleod for Reach’s Groceries and Village Greenery Flower shop before retiring.
Barbara was active in the community, serving for a term on Town Council, and was a member of the Board of Directors of Kid’s First Family Centre.
Barbara remained in Fort Macleod until 2010, when she moved back to Ontario to live in Stoney Creek, Ontario. She remained there until developing some health issues when she moved back to Alberta in 2017.
Once back in Alberta, Barbara lived for 4 years at The View in Lethbridge, followed by almost 4 years at the Pioneer Lodge in Fort Macleod, Alberta. The family is so grateful for the loving care she received at the Pioneer Lodge in Fort Macleod.
Her parents, Sadie and Samuel Keel, her brother, Ken Keel, her husband, Fred Cote, her son Kevin, and her grandson, David Lichtenberger, all predeceased Barbara.
She will be lovingly remembered and missed by her family. Left to mourn are her children Sue (Bill) Lichtenberger, Brian (Kathy) Cote and Neil (Michelle) Cote, and her grandchildren Michael (Natasha) Lichtenberger, Tim Lichtenberger, Jill (Cody) Selke, Jessie (Chelsea) Clark, Brandon (Rachel) Cote, and Riley Cote as well as numerous great grandchildren.
Barbara will be cremated and her remains will be buried alongside her husband, Fred Cote, in Burlington, Ontario.
