Bryce (Day Chief) Chief Moon Obituary

Forever In Our Hearts

Bryce John (Day Chief) Chief Moon

Natoyii’kinasoyii – Holy Shine

May 27, 1988 – Feb. 25, 2025

Bryce Day Chief – Chief Moon, Beloved Husband of Brandi Fox and his children Hunter, Kiler, Ariel and Dylan and his best friend Bluey, passed away surrounded by his family on February 25, 2025, in Lethbridge Alberta at the age of 36.

Bryce was born on May 27, 1988, in Fort Macleod, Alberta to parents John and Delia Chief Moon (Day Chief). He was the youngest siblings to Kasey (Emery) Day Chief, Bradley (Tamara) Day Chief, Darryl (Carley) Day Chief, Seven Quesnelle, Courtney (Lane) Day Chief, Leon (Tara) Day Chief, Kristy-China Provost, Buck (Zena) Bruised Head, Darcy Day Chief, Kristy (Tommy) Bruised Head, Gregory (Germaine) Cat Face, and Steve (Mel) Hunt and his Baby Brothers Maleek and Kix (Tiara) White Quills, Baby sister Tenille (Cam) Day Chief.

Bryce was raised in Lethbridge then later in Standoff. From the beginning Bryce and his sister had a very strong bond, to many he was a little boss, to Kasey he was her baby brother - the boy she promised to protect even when he insisted, he didn’t need it. With both having the stubbornness, clashing more than agreeing, pushing each other’s limits only siblings can, but underneath it all was the love that wavered. Now the world feels quieter without his voice, without his determination, without the push and pull to shape our lives.

When Bryce lived in Standoff, this is where he created a close bond with all his older cousins and siblings, the place where all the kids wanted to be. At a young age, Bryce began his hockey career where he was coached by his uncle Barney. Bryce has also gained an interest in both dirt bikes and quads.

Bryce first attended kindergarten to Grade 1 in Standoff, later he attended Ecole St. Mary’s for his elementary years. For his junior high and high school, Bryce proceeded to St Francis and Kainai High School. This is where Bryce created bonds and friendships with numerous friends. He always had a passion for cooking/baking, where in 2017 here attended a culinary course which in turn lead him to be employed as a cook for Saipoyi School from 2018 until his passing. Since his younger days Bryce always looked forward to setting up little stores at Aakokaa’tsin. What later led him to start having pop up tent stores at the Kainai Fair & Powwow, making his famous treats such as his candy apples, and mini donuts. Eventually it went further on to purchasing a food truck with his dad “Big Chief’s Flame and Grill” This is where he gathered the family together to travel all over to set up during the summer.

Bryce met the love of his life Brandi Fox, and they spent 14 beautiful years together raising their 4 children. Bryce and Brandi had a lot of love for each other. They knew each other from their teenage years, then soon after they created a life together. Bryce and Brandi made plans to get married, he proposed in 2023. Bryce loved his babies they were his whole world, he always made sure he told them he loved them. He had a way of showing them the love he had by spoiling them, all 4 of his babies had their own unique bond with him. Bryce was always teasing and joking around with his kids, they never knew if he was serious or not. Bryce always went out of his way to make their birthdays extra special. Bryce worked hard to provide for his family to make sure Brandi and the kids never had to worry.

Bryce and Brandi were inseparable, they did everything together. Bryce enjoyed spending time with his family taking them on adventures and doing the things that he loved. Creating memories with his

family was his highlights in life. Not long after he had his kids, Bryce made it back to townsite, his old stomping grounds. Anytime when Bryce needed to go somewhere, he always called his mom to follow. That’s how it has been these past years, Bryce always made sure his mom and dad traveled with him.

Bryce followed his grandmother Lucy’s spiritual practice of healing ceremonies. In 2018 Bryce made a commitment to furthering his own spiritual journey. He also had the privilege to participate with his uncle Chester at their annual Sundance ceremony, where he was given specific tasks as a helper.

Being a part of this had a big impact on him and it encouraged Bryce to change his way of life. Before his birth, he received his Indian name (Natoyii’kinasoyii - Holy shine) by his late grandmothers Lucy and Margaret.

Bryce held a special place with both of his grandmas. He shared a very close relationship with his other mom the late Judy Day Chief, who helped raised him alongside John & Delia. His god parents in the ceremony were Winston Day Chief and auntie Christine Shade, through the Catholic way he had Chester, Bill and Harriet as his god parents.

Bryce’s younger years he was really close with his late grandma Evangeline and Leona, and he always looked forward all the homemade goodies and gifts along with treats. Bryce looked forward to spending time with his aunties Cheila, Karen, Mariam, Pauline and Jennifer. Bryce had a close relationship with all his cousins from the Chief Moon clan.

Bryce was babied by so many of the aunties and they became his grandmas, auntie Mae Singer, auntie Christine Shade, auntie Lucy Russell.

Bryce had many hobbies throughout his life. In his last recent years, he was working on a project truck, his 1980 square box Chev. Bryce loved his vintage vehicles, and he was always after his uncle Shawn’s black truck, which he eventually owned. Bryce loved to be outdoors, he enjoyed fishing and hunting. Bryce was the type to be known as the guy who had all the cool stuff. In his teenage years he loved to skateboard everywhere. In the winter he would go snowboarding and he would bring all his friends with him. Bryce was deeply passionate about music, going to concerts was his favorite. His last concert he attended was Skrillex last year.

Craig and Linda Fox (In-laws) were his second family, he often told funny stories of meeting Brandi and his first encounters with his mother-in-law Linda. Bryce shared a special bond with Brandi’s Grandpa the late Reggie Whiteman.
