Cindy Ann Day Chief

Kakato’siikiinaakii

(Shining Star Woman)

December 16, 1973 – May 25, 2026

With heavy hearts and profound sorrow, the family announces the sudden passing of our beloved Cindy Ann Day Chief. She peacefully passed away on Monday, May 25, 2026, at the age of 52, surrounded by her family at the Peter Lougheed Hospital in Calgary, Alberta.

Cindy was born on December 16, 1973, in Cardston, Alberta, to the late Edmund Wolf Child and Doris (Dorice) Day Chief. She was blessed with the love of a second mother, Noreen Wolf Child. Cindy cherished her parents deeply, and the family finds comfort in knowing that she has been reunited with them.

Cindy Ann will be deeply missed by her children, Amber (Denise), Tyra, and Wyatt Day Chief. Especially by her pride and joys, her grandchildren, Breightin Dixon, Letty Ann Dixon, Liam Day Chief, Kerry Day Chief, Kelsey Evander and Illyanna Healy, Kingston Day Chief, and Hayze Day Chief; Her siblings, Leon (Tara), Darcy, Buck (Zeena), Bradford, Tracy (Armond), Lisa (Larz), and Kristy (Tommy). Cindy is also survived by her uncles, Gilbert (Shirley) Wolf Child, Wilton Day Chief, Chester Day Chief, Bruce (Carla) Day Chief, and Perry Day Chief;  Her aunts, Geraldine (Richard) Wells, Stella Wolf Child, Theresa (Alfie) Red Crow, Joyce Wolf Child, Rita, Harriet, Laverne, Patsy, Delia, and Martha Day Chief; adopted sisters and brothers, Kim, Reesa, and Tanya Healy, Kyla, Tammy, Lorna, and Vicki Day Chief, Bobbi Wells, Missy Weasel Child, Rozalyn Prairie Chicken, Crystal Starlight, Terrance Day Chief, and Emery Roy Three Persons.

She was born at Cardston Hospital and spent her early years in the Old Townsite.  Later, she resided in various places.  Cindy attended Standoff Elementary School and then completed high school at St. Mary’s Jr. and Sr. High School. She also attended Red Crow Community College and participated in a Job Corps program in Provo, Utah. As a child, teenager, and young adult, Cindy enjoyed playing and watching sports, especially volleyball, basketball, and fastball. Throughout her adult years, she was employed with the various departments, Blood Tribe Social Services, Kainai Children’s Services, Kainai Continuing Care Centre, Blood Tribe Housing and worked Road Construction.

In 1989, Cindy welcomed her first daughter, Amber Jean.  Then in 1998, she joyfully welcomed her second daughter, Tyra Robbie Rylin Jace. Cindy adored and loved her girls deeply. Amber was partly raised by her grandparents, Grandpa Edmund and Grandma Noreen as a Kiipitapooka.  Tyra, on the other hand, was raised solely by Cindy.  They both shared a unique bond with their mother.  As the baby, Tyra was pampered by Cindy, and Amber reciprocated the same affection to her baby sister. Cindy often spoke fondly of her son, who was born and had passed away in 1997. She named Tyra after him, “Rylin Jace.”  As Wyatt being one of her nephew’s, Cindy was always close to him.  She took him in and treated him as one of her own, she loved him and his children very much. She often shared that Wyatt was an awesome son.

Cindy cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren, adoring them unconditionally. She was particularly close to her grandson, Kerry. They shared a close bond, and Cindy treated Kerry just like a son, raising him as a Kiipitapooka. Kerry was her constant companion, always following her wherever she went. Cindy ensured he had everything he needed, especially his gaming cards and allowance. She will be dearly missed by him.

Cindy’s hobbies included making jewelry and rosaries, enjoying hair and makeup, and cooking.  She was a talented cook, and cooking was her love language.  She loved preparing meals for her friends and family and was always offering to cook. Cindy loved cruising around, she loved sneaking off to the casino with Noreen, she loved being crafty making things for her siblings. She very much enjoyed hanging out with her friends and loved razzing you, if she loved you, she would razz you. She had such an infectious smile and laugh. She would tell funny stories and remind you of certain times and fun adventures. Cindy was often the life of the party; she welcomed you with open arms - at Cindy’s you always felt at home.

She was kind and empathetic, always willing to lend a helping hand.  Cindy had such a big heart and enjoyed being around her nieces and nephews.  She loved watching hockey, especially hearing about her nephew and nieces’ games. When you would give her a rundown of what exciting play was made, she often praised the kids long after. She was a giver of nick names, she called Brielle “Pretty,” Kiara “China Doll,” and Grady “Gravy.” Cindy’s unwavering kindness and generosity were evident even when she had little to spare.  She consistently gave and helped others. Her love for her loved ones was immeasurable, and she always prioritized their well-being.  If she could help you, she did. Her caring heart led her to organize along with her daughters, cooking hearty meals and giving to those in need.  Cindy never judged anyone based on their circumstances; she saw you for who you truly were.

Cindy was predeceased by her parents, Edmund (Noreen) Wolf Child and Doris (Dorice) (Johnny Bruised Head).  She is predeceased by her son, Rylin Jace, and her brothers Kerry Day Chief, Robbie Day Chief, Bradley Day Chief, and Kelsey Wolf Child.  Her grandparents include, Sam and Elizabeth (Black White Man) Wolf Child, Victor and Lucy (Heavy Runner) Day Chief, and her nephews and niece, Daylen Day Chief, Baby Kerry Day Chief, and Josey Day Rider.  Her aunts and uncles are Josephine & Herman Vielle, Martin, Martha, Bella, and Samuel Wolf Child, Catherine Black White Man, Lambert Many Fingers, Winston Sr., Jarvis (Julianna) Day Chief, Keith Red Crow, Rodney First Rider, Rosaline, June, Alfreda, and Judy K Day Chief. Her adopted sister and brothers, Tanya White Man Left, Scotty “Bruizer” Bruised Head, Bobby Weasel Head, and Radford Healy.

Cindy’s passing has left an enormous void in our hearts. We will always cherish and deeply miss her. She will be remembered by everyone who knew her. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to all who kept Cindy in their prayers; we are truly grateful.  We apologize for any names that may have been missed, as Cindy had a large extended family, friends, and relatives.
