Doris Wellman Obituary

Doris was born on December 6, 1934 in Flin Flon, Manitoba to Jean and Albert Hopkins. She was always proud of being from the North and returned to the family cabin at Blondie's Beach (named after her father) to spend her summers once she retired.

She travelled to Europe and Australia before attending the University of Toronto for a year. She worked for the federal government for many years, starting in the Northwest Territories, before ending her career with Parks Canada at Waterton Park.

She loved to read and would happily talk about books and favourite authors. She enjoyed bowling and went twice a week for years. An accomplished pianist and guitar player, she passed her love of playing to her oldest grandson.

Her last years were spent at Vista Village, being cared for by the amazing staff there. She passed away peacefully at Pincher Creek Hospital on May 4, 2021. She was predeceased by her parents and her older brother Robert (Bob) Hopkins. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Calvin Wellman, her daughter Lynne (Stanley) Walker, her grandsons Calvin and John Walker, her sister Elizabeth (David) Clement, nephew Brian Clement, niece Cheryl Miki and other nieces and nephews.

We are thankful to the wonderful staff at Vista Village for Mom's care, to the staff of Pincher Creek Emergency Services for the transports to and from the hospital and to the staff of Pincher Creek Hospital for their care.

Donations in Doris's memory may be made to the Pincher Creek Friends of the Library, P.O Box 2020, Pincher Creek, AB T0L 0Z0 or the Alzheimer Society of Alberta, #306, 10430 61 Avenue, Edmonton, AB, T6H 2J3
