Douglas Prairie Chicken - English Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved brother, son, uncle, and friend, Douglas Charles Prairie Chicken-English, on August 2, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was 29 years old.

Douglas was born on December 16, 1994, in Fort Macleod Hospital to Terryanne English and the late Everett Prairie Chicken. As the youngest of five siblings, he grew up in Southern Alberta and the Calgary area, where he was known for his kind heart, infectious sense of humor, and deep love for his family and friends. Douglas had a unique ability to make everyone feel welcome, always greeting others with a big smile and a warm hug, ensuring that they were well before parting ways. His genuine care and concern for others endeared him to many, and he made countless friends throughout his life, many of whom he considered brothers.

In 2012, Douglas graduated from FP Walshe High School, a milestone he was incredibly proud of, especially after earning a scholarship that recognized his hard work and determination. After high school, Douglas pursued various paths, reflecting his adventurous spirit and dedication to his craft. For over four years, he worked alongside his brother Ryan in the concrete industry, contributing to significant projects across Alberta and even in parts of Saskatchewan. One of his notable achievements was helping to build the concrete foundation for Canada’s largest dairy facility.

Douglas didn't stop there. He expanded his skills by completing courses in landscaping and carpentry, applying his talents to various projects throughout Alberta and the Blood Tribe area. Among his proudest accomplishments was the completion of the Elders' sidewalk and stairs in Kainai, a project he executed with great care and precision, earning admiration for his craftsmanship.

Douglas was a man of many jokes and sayings, bringing laughter and joy to those around him. His vibrant personality and caring nature made him one of a kind, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Douglas leaves behind a loving family, including his mother, Terryanne English; siblings, Tiarah, Zachary, Jacqueline, and Ryan (Jamie); nephews, Chevez, Markez, Brixton, Riley, Zachary, and Carter; nieces, Gabriella, Sadie, Emma, Kylie, and June. He also leaves behind his special friend Brittany Spotted Bull and her children Aurora, Eva, and Ava, whom he cared for deeply. Douglas is survived by his grandmother Louise English, his godfather Rick English, and numerous family members from the English and Prairie Chicken families.

Douglas was predeceased by his father, Everett Prairie Chicken; paternal grandparents, Allen and Sylvia Prairie Chicken; maternal grandparents, Julias and Omer English; and uncles, Charles, George, Joe, Kevin, Lynn, Jamie, and Cody.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported them during this difficult time, especially the doctors and nurses at Foothills Hospital. Special gratitude goes to Dr. McBeth and the compassionate nurses who provided exceptional care.
