It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our mom, grandma, sister, auntie, and friend, Elaine Agnes Erick (Lemire), on Saturday, October 22, 2022, at St. Joseph’s Carmel Hospice in Medicine Hat.
Elaine was born May 8, 1942, in Fort Macleod, where she attended school for eleven years, then took her grade 12 education at St. Mary’s Girls school in Calgary. Following high school, she completed Secretarial Training at Lethbridge Junior College. She started her working career in Fort Macleod and also met and married the love of her life, Dennis Erick.
Elaine is survived by her three daughters, Suzette (Dan) Wells of Calgary, Simone Erick (Robert Lust) of Medicine Hat, and Michelle (Darcy) DeSmit of Lethbridge; and her five precious grandchildren, Benjamin, Jenna, Nathan (Kerri-Ann Andrais), Eric and Caroline. Elaine is also survived by her two sisters, Raymonde (Roy) Davis and Denise Chester; two brothers, Marcel (Doreen) Lemire and Rick (Blanche) Lemire; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Elaine was predeceased by her loving husband, Dennis Erick; her parents, Henry and Dora Lemire; sister Adele Heck; and brother-in-law’s, Don Chester and Marcus Heck.
Elaine was actively involved in her community. She was a devout Catholic who assisted with the music ministry and other areas, including being an active CWL member for many years. She delivered Meals on Wheels, worked with Citizens on Patrol, assisted with school programs (breakfast and PAL) and volunteered to drive many people to medical appointments out of town.
Her grandchildren were her true pride and joy, and she was happiest when all the families came for dinner on Sundays. Elaine’s coffee pot was always on, and she welcomed many people into her home over the years.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Kidney Foundation, 6007-1A Street West, Calgary, Alberta T2H 0G5. Donations can also be made to Alan Joys Memorial Fund Society by e-transfer at donations@ajsloancupboard.ca.
