Elsie Elizabeth Prokop (Filipchuk)
August 22, 1932 - November 19, 2023
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, Elsie Elizabeth Prokop (nee Filipchuk).
Elsie passed peacefully on November 19, 2023, at the Extendicare facility in Fort MacLeod, Alberta and made her final journey to be with her Lord.
Elsie was born in Hampton, Saskatchewan on August 22, 1932, to Wasyl and Annie Chepil, the youngest of six siblings, and grew up on the family farm.
Elsie was baptized and confirmed at the Holy Ghost’s Ukrainian Catholic Church at Buchanan, Sask. on July 9, 1958.
Elsie moved to Moose Jaw, Sask., where she met Michael Prokop. They were married on July 12, 1958, at the Saint John the Baptist Church in Tadmore, Sask.
Since Michael was in the Canadian Air Force, the family moved around frequently in the early years of their marriage. Their first son, Brian Michael, accompanied them to Europe. Their second son, David Leonard, was born in France. Their third son, Morris Edwin, was born in Sask.
In the mid-seventies, Michael retired from the Air Force and accepted a position at the Shell Plant near Pincher Creek, Alberta. The family moved there from North Bay, Ont.
Michael worked there until retirement and passed away on Dec. 17, 1992.
Elsie moved into the Extendicare facility in Fort MacLeod in 2015. She spent her time growing tomatoes and taking care of the flowers and plants at the facility.
Elsie always had a love of gardening. It was a great joy of hers to spend many hours in her garden at the house in Pincher Creek.
She also had a great love of birds, animals, and nature which she passed on to her children as well.
Elsie is survived by her sons Brian Michael, David Leonard and Morris Edwin Prokop and her granddaughter, Jennifer Diane Prokop.
Elsie was a strong believer in Christianity who relied on her faith in God to get her through the tough times.
She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
