Gus Martin Menninger was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico on April 4, 1943, and passed away in the University of Colorado hospital on May 3, 2022. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by his mother Nadyne Snider, his sister Bonnie Helgeson (John), his sister-in-law Taka (Bill, deceased), his nieces – Stacey and Michelle – and nephews – Christopher, Nikki and Jason - and by his partner and best friend, Lois Johnston and her family.
Gus studied civil engineering at the University of Colorado and followed this by earning an MBA. He also proudly served as a lieutenant in the US army during the Vietnam War. In his working career, Gus headed projects throughout the US as well as in several settings in SE Asia.
Gus loved to fish! Many hours were spent cruising in his boat to secret fishing spots along the Missouri River. He kept a second boat in Canada, and loved going out to Waterton to try his luck on lake trout. And, if he wasn’t fishing, he was collecting and then sorting his vast array of fishing lures.
Upon retirement, Gus spent a good part of each year in Canada, taking up a new hobby – ice fishing. Some of his favourite ponds were Dipping Vat, Payne Lake and Police Lake.
A private Graveside Service was held.
