It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our father and poppa Keith Edward Taylor. Keith passed away peacefully at the Fort Macleod Health Centre surrounded by his family on Monday, December 26th, 2022, at the age of 86.
Keith was born in Carmangay, Alberta on August 26, 1936. He worked for ATCO Gas (formerly Canadian Western Natural Gas) for 41 years and he worked his way through various positions, until his retirement as District Supervisor in Fort Macleod. Keith was always very active in all the communities he lived in. He was a member of the Trochu Elks for over 60 years. In Trochu he was a councillor for 5 years, on the Trochu Fire Department for 17 years, coached minor ball and hockey. Keith received a “once in a lifetime” honor for his community work in Fort Macleod when he received the Max Gibb Award for his significant contributions to the development of the Southern Alberta Summer Games. That was followed up when Canadian Western Natural Gas (ATCO Gas) presented him with the Eugene Coste award for his community work. While living in Trochu, Keith and Marion fostered over 44 children over a 25-year period and the highlight for them was being reunited with one of their foster daughters after 30 years. For over 40 years he and his friend Jack Cook ventured on horseback into the mountains for their annual hunting trip. Keith had a huge passion for the ranching life and helped many people over the years with roundup, branding and as a ranch hand.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 51 years Marion (Lock) and his son Kevin. Keith will be sadly missed by his 4 children: Karen Clark (Doug); Rob Taylor; Darla Stav (Nelson Thomas) and Dawn Borck (George); and a special foster daughter Katherine (Susie) Aubrey. His 6 grandchildren will miss their Poppa: Kaitlynd Clark (Phil Lampman), Stephanie Taylor, Stephen Taylor (Dawn McPartland), Shae-Lynn Taylor, Dayna McTighe (Brad) and Riata Stav (Brent Scharf). He is also survived by his 6 great-grandchildren, his siblings Stewart (Jean) Taylor and Laurel (Sterling) Clayton and his sister-in-law Norma Lock, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
With sincere appreciation, in lieu of flowers, the family is requesting a donation be made to the Fort Macleod Healthcare Auxiliary Association, 744 – 26 Street S, Fort Macleod, AB T0L 0Z0.
At Keith’s request, no service will be held, instead his family will hold a private service at the Okotoks Cemetery where he will be laid to rest beside his wife.
