Kenichi "Ken" Kitagawa Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Kenichi “Ken” Kitagawa, of Pincher Creek, Alberta, beloved husband of the late Etsuko “Sue” Kitagawa, on Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at the age of 93 years.

Ken is survived by his brother Taxi (Doreen) Kitagawa, of Calgary, Alberta; his sister Minie Nakatsuru, of Calgary, Alberta; his daughter Terry (Brian) Miner, of Calgary, Alberta; his sons Jim (Wendy) Kitagawa, of Brooks, Alberta, and Ron Kitagawa of Calgary, Alberta; his grandchildren Takara Miner, Kenji Miner, Graeme Kitagawa, Everly Kitagawa, and Emilia Kitagawa; and his great-grandchildren Caleb Miner, and Amaya Miner.

Ken was born on February 13, 1930 in Haney, British Columbia. During World War II, Ken and his family were relocated to New Denver, B.C. After their internment, the family moved to Alberta and began farming in the Vauxhall area.

Ken met Sue in Lethbridge, Alberta and on March 20, 1954, they were happily married. In 1958, they moved to Pincher Creek where they established their home and  raised their loving family. Ken was a well-known fixture in the Pincher Creek Co-op, where he proudly worked as the Produce Manager for over 30 years. Upon his retirement in 1990, Ken and Sue enjoyed many years filled with adventures. They spent their retirement travelling in their motorhome to Arizona, camping with family, and attending rallies with the Good Sam’s Club. Ken loved curling, golfing, crib, and he served many years with the Pincher Creek Elks Club.

In his final years, Ken moved to the Whispering Winds Village where he made and enjoyed many friendships with the other residents. Ken passed away peacefully in his sleep at the Pincher Creek Hospital after a long life filled with family, friends, and so much joy.

Ken was predeceased by his loving wife Sue; his parents Denichiro and Iku Kitagawa of Taber, Alberta; his brothers Susumu (Susie) of Toronto, Ontario, and Masaru “Mas” Kitagawa, of Lethbridge, Alberta and Kazuo “Kay” Kitagawa, of Lethbridge, Alberta.

The family wishes to thank all the doctors, nurses, and medical staff of the Pincher Creek Health Center for their outstanding and compassionate care. They would also like to send a special thank you to Anne Humphreys for the love, care, and companionship she showed to Ken in his final years.

Ken was a beacon of warmth and kindness for all those who knew him. His family will cherish their memories of the years they spent with him and take comfort in knowing that he is back with his beloved Sue once again.
