Lois Cameron (nee Amadori) passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at Vista Village in Pincher Creek at the age of 96 years.
A Celebration of Life will be held later this summer at the Waterton United Church.
The family kindly asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be directed to the United Church in Wateron's Window Project. To send a donation or e-transfer, please send an email to Lynn, at watertonucc@gmail.com.
Lois was born May 20, 1928, in Espanola Ontario, daughter of Angelo Amadori and Catherine McMillan. Tragically Catherine died in 1931, and she and Gordon were motherless, raised by grandparents, aunts and housekeepers until Angelo remarried in 1941. Delia and Angelo had 1 son Louis, a younger brother to Lois.
Lois graduated from High School and went to business college in Sudbury Ont. She came back to Espanola and worked in the office at the local department store. Lois met William Cameron (Bill) in Espanola, and they married in 1948.
Lois was very involved in the church, girl guides and in brownies during their early life together.
Lois and Bill wanted a family. Lynn was born in 1957, Elizabeth in 1963. They moved to the Ottawa Valley in 1967 and finally settled in Ottawa in 1970. Lois re-entered the work force after many years at home and in 1972 started working full-time, first for Revenue Canada and then for the Canadian Geographic Magazine in downtown Ottawa. She worked for the magazine as a supervisor in the circulation department until she retired in 1992.
Spending time with Alison and Will would become a highlight for Lois and Bill. The many trips to Pincher Creek were filled with activities that included trips to properties at Spread Eagle and in the Waterton National Park. They also included experiences at play school, birthday parties, 4-H activities, and graduations. These times brough joy and happy memories.
In retirement Lois and Bill travelled quite a bit and had many trips to the North and West to keep up with Lynn’s family. Lois was an involved grandma. She loved Alison and Will and was always proud of their achievements.
Lois became an amazing cook. She was a master knitter and ran the knitting group at the church in Ottawa for many years- heading up the knitting table at the annual craft fair. She also took up quilting and produced lovely quilts that are heirlooms in our family.
Lois and Bill were very involved in so many aspects of the Riverside United Church as a couple. They each served on the session, Lois was involved in the Sunday School, Bill helped with the grounds and maintenance duties. The church congregation was their community.
When Bill had a devastating stroke in 2008, Lois stepped up and became his caregiver and advocate. She accepted the role with grace and perseverance. It was a testament to their love and devotion to each other.
Lois relocated permanently to PC in 2021 and lived the rest of her life here. All in all, it was a good move- allowing her to spend more time with Lynn, her grandchildren and renew her connection with people she had met on her many trips west with Bill.
During her time at Vista Village, first in an independent apartment and then in supported living, she had a dedicated group of caregivers, who provided her with love and attention that she needed to make her last, somewhat difficult years, the best they could be.
Kael, Chloe, Lorraine, Libby, Janice, Charlie, Tess, Rose, Chelsey, Crystal, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. The support you offered her went beyond any expectation that Lois could ever have hoped for. The personal and emotional support you offered her, stimulated her mind and body, and extended her life. She could not have asked for a better team.
We pay tribute to Lois, acknowledging how fortunate our family has been to have such an amazing matriarch. She was a woman who was ahead of her time. She had a positive impact on so many people. We say goodbye with heavy hearts, knowing that she lives on in all of us that have been touched by her.
