Lorne was born and raised on the Piikani First Nation. Along with his siblings he attended Peigan Indian Day School, Canyon Elementary School, and Matthew Halton High School in Pincher Creek. Lorne was known for his talents in building construction and worked for many years as an Apprentice Journeyman.
