Maria Peeters Obituary

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Mary Peeters at the Pincher Creek Health Centre at the age of 88.  She will be fondly remembered by her five children:  Elizabeth, Garry (Marilyn),  Shirley (Lloyd), Ron (Linda) and Robert (Debbie); her grandchildren: Chris Toltesi, Ashley Sloat, Brian Peeters, Krista Peeters, Mia Vaughan, Duane Peeters, Morgan, Trevor and Brett Peeters; her great-grandchildren: Alex and Natalie Toltesi, Isla and Adeline Sloat, Emma and Sybil Peeters, Brycen and Raya Peeters, Braxton, Joella and Lukas Vaughan and Jaydee Peeters; her siblings in Holland, Lei, Harry and Bet; as well as by other dear relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Herman; her parents, Elisabeth and Gerard; as well as her sister, Stiny.

Mary was born and grew up in Montfort, Holland along with two brothers and two sisters. Mary came to Canada in 1954 with her husband, Herman, and lived in rural locations until 1961 when they moved into Pincher Creek where they raised their five children. Mary resided in the same house until her passing. Mary was very active in Pincher Creek being a seamstress for many people. Quilting, knitting, crocheting, gardening and baking were among her many passions. She was a long-time member of the CWL. She enjoyed many years of volunteering at the Saint Michaels Library and also working at the Pincher Creek Library which worked well as she was an avid reader.  Mary enjoyed going three times a week to aqua-fit where she met and visited with some of her many friends. Mary was also an exceptional poet, writing on slips of paper or a napkin whenever a poem came to mind. One would get a good sense of Mary’s life if you were to read thru her literary collections. She enjoyed life and the changing seasons. Her elegance and kindness endeared her to many and will leave a vast and empty space in all our lives.

Due to the Covid-19 situation, a private family funeral service will be held at St. Michael’s Catholic Church.  Her final resting place will be at Fairview Cemetery in Pincher Creek.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Windy Slopes Health Foundation (P.O. Box 2554, Pincher Creek, Alberta, T0K 1W0) in memory of Mary.
