Marion Petersen

Marion Louise Petersen (née Carlson) passed away peacefully at the Pincher Creek Health Centre on May 18, 2018 at the age of 93. Marion will be lovingly remembered by her children Gordon (Cathy), Robert, Susan (John), son-in-law Randy (Heather), grandchildren Miranda (Daniel), Scott (McKayla), Garret, Nin (Tom), sister-in-law Bessie, and many wonderful nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents Mabel and Ernest, brother Gordon, sister Virginia, brother-in-law Francis, and daughter Margaret (Peggi). Marion was born in Spokane, Washington in 1924 and raised on her grandfather Sandgren's family farm near Pincher Creek. Her first job was at Blackburn Jewellers at the age of 14. Her summer jobs included working on Bert Riggall's pack train and as a chambermaid at the Prince of Wales Hotel in Waterton. When Marion finished high school, she went into nursing training at the General Hospital in Calgary. She worked throughout Alberta and BC as an RN until she married Howard Petersen in 1955. They made a home in the Edmonton area until 1959 when the family moved to Calgary. Marion worked in healthcare administration in Calgary, and briefly in Lethbridge, until her retirement in 1990. In 2011, she made the decision to move back "home" to Pincher Creek and enjoyed time spent with family and childhood friends as well as with the many new friends she made at Whispering Winds. Marion was a crossword puzzle guru and was always up for a good game of cards or Scrabble. She will always be remembered for her unconditional love and support of friends and family. The family would like to thank Dr. Rommens and all the staff at the Pincher Creek Health Centre for their outstanding and compassionate care. A Celebration of Marion’s Life will be held on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at 2:00pm at the Heritage Inn, 919 Waterton Avenue, Pincher Creek. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Stars Air Ambulance or 1441 Aviation Park NE, Box 570 Calgary, Alberta T2E 8M7, or The Salvation Army, 1302 4 Avenue South, Lethbridge, Alberta T1J 0R4
