Matthew Schmitz
December 23, 1940 ~ March 15, 2024
Matthew Peter Schmitz was born December 23, 1940. He passed away peacefully March 15, 2024, surrounded by loved ones.
He is survived by his only daughter Kim, granddaughter Jumai and great grandson Eli. He was predeceased by his wife Gail who passed away September 23, 2020.
Matt was a hardworking man. He briefly worked at Reach’s as a teenager then moved on to the Pedersen Creamery, also working alongside his brother at M & S Lumber. Until he pursued a career as a car salesman at Scoguall Motors for 34 years, then working for Volker well into his 70’s.
Matt was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He was always there to lend a helping hand or just supervise if need be. He had the best smile, only outmatched by his countless stories and jokes. Matt was a loved member of our community and made an incredible impact on all. He could be found in his yard working away or spending his free time golfing or at the woodshed with his beloved nephew and best friend Peter.
Although we are saying goodbye to a legend today, stories of our “Uncle Matt” will always be told with fondness and laughter.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Fort Macleod Community Hall, on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at 2:00 PM. The service will be Live-Streamed for those who cannot attend.
