Melvin Provost Obituary

Melvin Peter Provost (Balls) Kiyii (Dry Meat) passed away on Friday, August 23, 2024, at the age of 71 years young. Balls passed away peacefully at the Pincher Creek Health Centre with his wife Marlene (Blondie) at his side. 

Balls was born in Brocket, Alberta on June 12, 1953, to Edward Provost and Elizabeth Potts. He is survived by his loving wife Marlene Provost, his son Nathan (Chantel Provost), daughters: Carol (David Baptiste), Jody (Jeremy Plain Eagle) Amanda, and Dallas, along with five grandchildren: Hillary, Carson, Sienna, Trinity, and Natalie, three great-grandchildren: Evaughna, Stetson, Kane, and his Godsons lniskim Hungry Wolf, and JD Yellow Wings. He also leaves behind his siblings; Delores (Merle Good Eye), Beverly (Randy Wolf Tail), Karen (Terry North Peigan), (Patrick), inlaws: Marsha Provost, Bill (Del) English, Emil (Joann) David, Selene (Blayne) David, aunts: Rose Potts, Vera Potts, and Maudie Provost, along with numerous nieces and nephews. His extended family includes the Schneider family, the Granum Colony, Spring Point Colony, Standoff Colony, and his Ceremonial family.

He was predeceased by his parents, Eddie Provost and Liza Potts; his maternal and paternal grandparents; his brothers, John Wesley (Smokey) and Merlin (Boyo ); his sister Sharon 
(Mosquito); as well as his uncles, aunts, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and relatives.

He was passionate about his love Blondie, horses, The Duke, Kokanee, and living the Cowboy life. His friendships were vast and authentic. He was a private person who cherished his home, horses, friends, and family. He was his daddy's constant companion as most would remember. After the passing of his father, Eddie, he took it upon himself, as the kind and loving man he was, to raise his siblings and care for the homestead. Balls attended Sacred Heart Day School and St. Michael's in Pincher Creek after the boarding school closed. Balls was a member of the Brave Dog Society. Some of Balls' best memories are of when he attended the round-up. He was passionate about riding the range and telling stories of the good ole days. The Calgary Stampede played a big role in his life and his connection ran deep. 


A Family Wake Service was held between 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at Eden's Funeral Home, Fort Macleod, followed by a Public Wake Service between 5:00PM - 10:00 PM. A Funeral Mass was held on Friday, August 30, 2024, at the Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church, Fort Macleod, with Father Benedicto Tugano Officiating.

Interment took place in the Piikani Nation.
