It is with broken hearts that the family of Merna Hochstein announces her unexpected passing into the hands of the good lord. She passed away at St. Mike’s Health Care Facility October 18, 2022.
Merna is survived by her Daughter Sherri (Brad) and Son Don (Sue). Her sisters Lenore Burgess, Edrie Halbert and her brother Ken (Louise) Wittkopf as well as Edwin (Pat), Lester (Doris), Partrick (Connie)Hochstein, all from Pincher Creek. She was blessed with 3 grand children, Brieann, Steven, and Dillon and 2 great grand children, Zoey & Sebastian as well as 19 nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her parents Harvey and Ida Wittkopf and her husband of 50 years Del Hochstein.
Merna was born and raised in Pincher Creek along with her siblings and numerous cousins. She attended Business College in Lethbridge. She worked at the Pincher Creek hospital as a secretary. Many days and nights were spent as a member of the community band, which she loved to play her clarinet.
She and Del ran Hochstein Welding for 45 years. She was a lifetime member of the CWL. Her Catholic faith was predominant in her everyday life. She had many hobbies throughout the years, such as quilting and ceramics. Her biggest enjoyment came from working with her flowers and working on developing her family trees. She was an incredibly good listener and compassionate woman, but tough when need be.
She will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her. The family would like to thank the members of the Lethbridge Hospital and St. Michael’s Health care facility for all their care and compassion. Thanks also to all family, friends, and neighbors for their support and prayers.
A Memorial Mass was held on Wednesday, October 26, 2022, at St Michael’s Catholic Church with Father Myles Gaffney presiding. A Graveside Service at Fairview Cemetery and Reception at the Vertical Church followed.
