Michael Bastien

Michael Anthony Bastien was born on March 31, 1982 and passed away on August 21, 2023 at the age of 41 years old.

Mike grew up on the Piikani Reserve in CY. He enjoyed playing with his cousins on the hill, swimming in our grandpa’s trough, robbing his garden of vegetables, throwing the chicken eggs and playing in the school our dads made us in the bush. No matter what the season Mike could be found playing outside with his brother and all of his cousins. Every day was different and always adventurous. Mike moved to Calgary in 1988 with the family where he grew up and attended school. Mike attended Jack James High School after which he started in the workforce.  He did excel in concrete and other industrial jobs. Mike was a go getter and did various odd jobs also including farming out in the hay lease in Piikani.

Mike enjoyed the outdoors. He liked to long hikes with his uncle Harley and cousins. He liked to hunt and fish. He loved food and really like to cook. He was very particular with his preparation and presentation of his food. You would often find him in the kitchen whipping something up. He loved music and movies. He always had tunes, whether it was in his vehicle cruising or his handy dandy disk man. He could not live without music. Mike was a very elegant and sophisticated guy in his own way. Very clean and fresh and always looked sharp.

Mike had sadly and very unexpectedly developed schizophrenia in his mid-twenties. This played a huge role in the rest of Mikes life. Thankfully he did leave this world with a wonderful Son Jerome who was the biggest love of his life and his greatest accomplishment.  Although he had mental health illness he never stopped loving his Son.

Michael will be remembered by his Son Jerome Bastien Barrameda. His Mom Lynette Bastien. His Dad Terrence Kennedy and Step Mom Alanna White; Step Dad Rob Cayer; His Brothers Timothy Bastien, Elliott Bastien, Trevor Bastien, Kirby Bastien, Jami Bastien, George Bastien, Jeff Bastien His Sisters Treena Bastien, Carly (Bernis) Wells, Natoshia (Clayton) Bastien, Byrdie Loyer, Lori Ann Bastien and Step Sister Amanda Keegan.  His Uncles Harley (Betty) Bastien, Blackie (Charlotte) Provost, Dennis Bastien, Les (Carmella) Jerry, Cameron (Alison) Jerry, Alvin (Sonya) Jerry, Gordon Red crow and Guy Sommerfeldt.  His Aunt’s; Mary Bastien, Lana Bastien, Virginia McDermott, Janet Bastien, Maxine Jerry, Jaqueline (Trent) Bear, Arlene (Charlie) Jerry, Michelle (Shaun) Good Eagle, Shannon (Jessie) Lennon and Michelle Thrush. All of his Bastien and Jerry cousins too numerous to name.

Michael was predeceased by his Grandparents Jack and Jenny Bastien, George Jerry, Ruby Anderson. His Uncles Marshall Bastien, Bradley Jerry and Carlos Jerry and Ron Jerry.  His Aunties Lynda Red Crow and Patsy Jerry. Cousins Joanne Bastien, Jason Jerry, Darcy Red Crow,  Zach Red Crow.

A Wake Service was held on Tuesday, August 29, 2023,  from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm, at Eden’s Funeral Home in Fort Macleod, AB.

A Funeral Service was held on Wednesday, August 30, 2023, at 11:00 am, at the Community Hall in  Brocket, AB.

Michael was laid to rest in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Brocket, AB.
