Robert (Bob) Hewitt; loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, neighbor and friend passed away suddenly on April 16th, 2024 at the age of 88.
He was the youngest of four children born to Susan and Edward Hewitt on May 17, 1935 in Pincher Creek. Bob worked for a while as a young man in the logging industry when he met and married Marjorie Gates on August 23,1958. They moved to the Hewitt Ranch north of Cowley, homesteaded by Bob’s grandfather in 1906. They ranched and raised their four children there. This ranch was where Bob loved to be and sharing that lifestyle with his kids and grandkids gave him great pride.
Bob embodied the ranching life - raising cattle, calving cows, haying, riding horses and working everyday, no matter the weather, to keep things going. There wasn’t a thing he couldn’t fix or a job he couldn’t do. He loved animals and always had a house pet that snuggled up on his knee when he sat down in the evenings. Bob loved to spend time socializing with neighbors and friends and could never pass up the opportunity to go dancing. Socializing with family, friends and neighbors was time well spent for Bob. He used this time as a great opportunity to laugh and play jokes which was a huge part of who he was.
Roping was a favorite pastime. Bob and Marge spent almost every weekend at team roping’s and rodeos across Alberta and British Columbia. He made countless friends attending these events. He has numerous buckles and two trophy saddles to mark his achievements in the roping pen.
Robert is survived by his children Janet Michalsky, Richard (Charity) Hewitt , Joan (Bob) Neville, and Judy (Greg) Miller. Ten grandchildren Danita (Jeff), Melanie (Josh), Valerie (Tyler), Lyle (Rylee), Dustin (Kelsey), Tara ( Adam), Jared, Cole, Wyatt( Jennifer) and Garret and 13 great grandchildren. As well as numerous extended family members and countless friends and neighbors. Bob was predeceased by his wife of 64 years Marjorie, son in law Garth Michalsky, two sisters Edith, Robina and brother Doug.
