It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Rodney Roy Payne, known as Rod, who passed away peacefully at the Foothills Medical Center on Friday October 25th, 2024, surrounded by family.
Rod was born on April 18th, 1960, in Cardston AB to Glenroy & Carolyn Payne. He was raised along side his brothers Kenny (Debbie), Roy and sister Linda (Glenn).
Rod spent the last 21 years with the love of his life Brenda. They enjoyed camping, hunting, and the great outdoors together. You would find them with family, friends and anyone who appreciated Rod’s authentic redneck way of life. This time was spent building numerous great friendships that meant the world to Rod.
Rod is lovingly remembered by his sons Justin (Brittany), and Cody, his step-daughters who in his heart are his daughters Jenn (Don), and Stacey (Carl), his grandchildren Brenndon (Capri), Tristen, Alexi, Dominick, Hayden and Isabella, along with numerous nephews and nieces. Brother in laws Gubie, Wes (Marci), and Dave (Bobbi).
Throughout Rod’s work life, he started his own construction business for 30 plus years and did various other jobs. He was an avid volunteer with Fish and Game throughout many communities in Southern Alberta. Not only did Rod love the outdoors, he was an incredible natural athlete in his younger years, and exceled in anything he was involved in and was a true perfectionist in any tasks he endeavored.
Rod lived to be in the outdoors and teach all those around him what he knew about the land. He was a strong mentor to everyone around him, especially his grandchildren, nieces, nephews and son-in-law. He lived to hunt, camp, fish and be in the outdoors and mountains. He cared more about his family and friends then he did about himself. He was quick to step up and sharpen anyone’s chainsaw, and he was always up for a good hunt or assisting with processing the harvested animal. He loved guiding you to the perfect tree for firewood or a Christmas tree (that he hadn’t already spoken for yet), and knew every trail that anyone came across in Castle.
Rod was the most kind, caring, handy, stubborn, quirky, and don’t give a care fella around. We will miss you dearly Rod.
