Ron Favreau, of Coaldale, went to his eternal home peacefully on Wednesday, March 1, 2023, at 80 years of age.
Ronald Arthur Joseph Gerald was born on October 31, 1942, to Achille and Albertine (Doucette) Favreau in Kenora, Ontario. He is survived by his beloved wife Emilie of 58 years, three children: Kora-Lynne (Dean) Gould, Brad (Gerri) Favreau, Dale (Kari) Favreau, 12 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, his younger sisters: Toddie, Colleen, Elaine, and Gisele, cousins, in-laws, nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Ron was predeceased by his son (Kenny), parents, brothers (Gary and Randy), mother-in-law, and sister-in-law’s.
Ron began his career as a typesetter for Miner and News in Kenora at 18 years of age. At 21, he travelled to Alberta from Ontario, having been offered a job at the Calgary Sun. However, he ghosted the Sun because someone caught his eye in Claresholm, a girl named Emilie, the love of his life, who he married on April 4, 1964. He continued working as a newspaper printer in Claresholm, Hanna, again in Kenora, and finally settling in Fort Macleod at the Macleod Gazette. He volunteered for the fire and ambulance service, was on the Credit Union Board of Directors, an honorary Knight of Columbus, owned Dave’s Transport Company, and started Windy Acres Rabbitry.
Ron, known for his wisdom, generosity, compassion, sense of humor and wit, was a mentor and father figure to many. He was passionate about Jesus, Live-Ins, "my grandbabies”, tropical fish (24 tanks full!), winning Canasta, hunting wild game, listening to Johnny Cash, and fishing for pickerel when he was younger.
Well done, good and faithful servant!
The family would like to thank the staff at Fort Macleod Community Support Beds for their care and support.
