Roy Francis Bare Shin Bone

On July 26, 2026 Dad rode off into the sunset to meet the love of his life Christine. Roy was born on June 7, 1947 to John  (Natokaikanahsoyii) and Annie (Misimaki) Bare Shin Bone. Roy and Christine   were married on April 9, 1969. They were married for 58 years and together for 59 years. Together they raised their beautiful children Jonathan, Charlene, Vaughn, Rochelle, Marissa, McKenna and Kristyna. Their legacy continues with their grand Children Jonelle, Jon Jr. Sootaa, Liam, Shanti, and Khalilah.  Jett, Jacob and Jude Black Water. Lydia, Kylia, Kai, Larry, Lacey, Lane Liam, Cobe, Kiara, Kennedy. Colton, Shelby, Sonjae, Harley, Hudson, Diamond, Hazel, Stetson, Mercedes, Quincey, Jaidee, and JR Scout.

They lovingly adopted many children Trisha Black Water, Tom & Sandra Russell, Ronni & Cynthia, Lester & Sharon, Cheryl & Herman Scout , Ethel & Floyd Plume, Malina & Jr Across the Mountain, Bobbie-Rose Chief Moon. Malcom Eagle Speaker, Jimmy Shot Both Sides, Charlie Big Head. God Daughter’s Jolaine & Harley Bare Shin Bone.

Dad was raised in iispotopii with his brothers and sisters. Peter Big Head, Ruby Eagle Plume, Mary Cole, Sylvia (Dale) Low Horn, Lucielle BSB, Vernon BSB, Linda (Jim) Shot Both Sides, John BSB, Jordan (Susan) BSB, Randy BSB and Gail (Randy) Many Bears. Dad was their protector and was always looking out for them. His Brother in-laws Donald and Christopher Shot Both Sides. He loved his nieces and nephews as his own children and had a unique special bond with each of them.

Dad was a very unique individual fearless and bold.  He lived his life by his own rules and also raised his kids that way. We were all taught to stand on our own two feet and not depend on anyone. Dad stressed the importance of Education and having a better life than he did. He didn’t want us to follow in his ways, which were the outlaw ways. Dad wanted to raise his children in the church and taught us the importance of fearing God and being kind. He also taught his kids to stand up for themselves and know how to fight. He taught us everything about basic car maintenance; dad never wanted us to depend on anyone. At a very early age we all knew how to drive, we could even drive tractors, and tend to live stock, hook up and hitch the trailer to the truck. Dad also had loving ways and raised his children on country music, and teaching his kids to 2-step and also had family dances in the living room. Dad and Mom stressed being a family and sticking together and have each other’s back. Behind closed doors dad was the ultimate play mate to his girls, they would paint his nails, do his hair, often had movie spa nights, we also played many games and he was never the one to turn away from a good dance off. Dad was the greatest.

Rodeo was the way of life for Dad very unique, fearless and bold. He started riding when he was only 16 and he rode bare back riding, bull riding and dabbled in roping. Dad fell in love with the adrenaline of bareback riding and excelled. He won the Rookie of the year in 1968 with the IRCA, Which gave him his nick name Rookie and that name stuck with him for the rest of his life!  After dad retired his beloved sport he continued to support his son Jonathan and wanted to open the chute for him. After that one time dad was hooked, and invited back to be the chute boss and opened chutes for hundreds of cowboys for over 16 years. Dad being in the arena gave him a rodeo high and was on cloud 9, days after the rodeo. Even saying the fans came to the rodeo just to watch him open the gates.

Dad inspired his nephews to also follow in the cowboy way of life; Floyd Big Head, Dale Jr. Low Horn, Malcolm Eagle Speaker, Chad Bare Shin Bone, Clint Many Bears, Tommy Bare Shin Bone and Cobe Blood. And his brother Johnny. He was always so proud of them and gave his advice and words of encouragement.

Dad was a young soul and was the life of any party. He always had a story to tell and his one line punch lines. Simmer down their cowboy, in a matter of fact, cowboy up, by golly and he adopted the phrase from his brother in law Albert Many Fingers: I don’t like it but, I guess things happen that way. When dad was hungover he would say I’m sick, sober, sorry, and disgusted and broke. Even his attire always had to have the title of my western rodeo cowboy (Shirt, hat, belt, boots, and jeans). You would always see dad dressed up in his western attire and a scarf around his neck.

Dad had many life-long special friends Sonny (Terry) Wadsworth, Del Healy, Dexter Healy, Floyd Plume, Ethel Hoeksema, Michelle Big Wolf, Eddy & Janelle Camposs. LJ and Sarah Good Eagle, Alphonse Standing Alone, Christina Fox, Sandra Bruised Head, and Clarence Black Water Jr. Albert Rabbit, Allen Wells & Bryan Wadsworth sorry if any names missed as dad had many friends. His special friends that went before him Jonas Fox, Okan Hungry Wolf, Martina Shot both Sides, Monica Chief Moon, and Thomas Eagle Child. When Monica passed we saw how fragile his heart was, I don’t think he never recovered. Dad experienced so much heart break in the last 7 months. Dad lasted 165 days without mom.

When their baby boy passed you could see the decline in their health and their spirit. Although dad is the toughest man I know, he was broken hearted. He knew we were all so strong and he raised us right, he can leave and be comforted that we are going to be ok. Forever in our hearts Cowboy, we love you dad
