Siegfried "Sieg" Becker

Siegfried Viktor “Sieg” Becker, late of Calgary, AB, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly from a heart attack while working at the Horizon Aerodome, Fort MacKay, AB.

Sieg chose a career in aviation while still in high school and began his education as a Flight Services Specialist immediately after graduating. His training began in Ottawa and in later years moved to Nav Canada’s centre in Cornwall. Throughout his career, Sieg kept his skills sharp to meet the evolving needs of the aviation community.

Sieg’s name meant “man of peace” and it was a fitting description of the life he lived-conscientious and trustworthy, always with time to spend with his wife and his daughters, their spouses, and his beloved grandchildren. The births of his two daughters Alyssa and Caroline, and the arrival of his granddaughter Peyton, and grandson Edward, brought him immense joy.

Sieg was a kind and loyal husband, Dad, and Opa, ready to fix, help, play, protect, and save. His quiet wisdom and natural authority were inspiring, giving us the courage to live our lives fully. Never one to bask in the spotlight, Sieg carried himself with grace and humility and a wonderful sense of humour. His smile could light up a room. He was a contented man, grateful for his life and for the people with whom he shared it. He died twelve days before his 52nd wedding anniversary.

Sieg is survived by his wife Leona, his daughters Alyssa and Caroline, his sons-in-law Calvin and Christopher, his grandchildren Peyton and Edward, his brother Jake and wife Lin, his sister and brother-in-law Pam and Dave Quinn and their three daughters Bonnie, Beth, and Katie. Sieg was preceded in death by his father Waldemar, his mother Emilie, his aunt Tina, and three of his brothers.

A Celebration of Life was held for Sieg on January 24, 2025, at the Executive Flight Centre in Calgary, AB. The Memorial Tribute was graciously hosted by his co-workers at the Executive Flight Centre, along with the pilots and flight attendants from Canadian North.
