Tally Zandberg Obituary

With gratitude for her life and the many blessings she brought to those around her, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Tally Zandberg, age 75, on May 26, 2026.

Tally Zandberg (née Schuurman) was born on June 24, 1950, in Groningen, the Netherlands, the first of two children born to Klaas and Siebrech Schuurman. She passed away on May 26, 2026, at the age of 75.

In 1951, the family emigrated to Canada and settled in Alberta, joining relatives already there. They spent a short time near Kipp before moving to Vauxhall. Her brother Henry was born in 1954. The family soon moved to Abbotsford, British Columbia, where Tally completed her schooling. After one year of university, she was offered a position at Abbotsford Christian School teaching Grade 3.

On July 1, 1978, Tally married Henry Zandberg. Soon afterward, they moved to Smithers, British Columbia. She continued teaching at Smithers Christian School until the birth of their first child, Wesley, in 1979. In 1980, the family moved to an acreage along the Bulkley River where they raised their six children: Wesley, Marvin, Richard, Shari, Heidi, and Steven.

Life on the acreage was busy and full. Tally created a warm, welcoming home while supporting Henry on their hobby farm. She maintained a large garden each summer and preserved its harvest by freezing, canning, drying, and storing food for her family year-round. She enjoyed sewing, needlework, cooking, and trying new recipes. During haying season, she packed meals and brought the children to visit Henry in the fields.

In 2018, Tally and Henry moved to Picture Butte, Alberta, to be closer to their children and grandchildren and provide medical support for Henry.  They enjoyed several years together there, spending time with family, gardening, doing yard work, and volunteering at Bibles for Missions, until Henry’s passing in 2024.

Above all, Tally desired to raise her children to know and love the Lord. She faithfully read Bible stories and devotions, prayed with her family, and kept church at the center of family life. She served through Christian education, church committees, Calvinettes, and countless quiet acts of kindness — bringing meals, visiting the elderly, helping those in need, and simply showing up for others. A devoted wife to Henry for 46 years, a mother, grandmother, sister, auntie, and friend to many, Tally lived a quiet life of humble service. She never sought recognition, but faithfully did ordinary things with extraordinary love. Her life remains a beautiful testimony to God’s grace and faithfulness.

She is lovingly remembered by her children: Wesley (Heather), Marvin (Josie), Richard (Annette), Shari (Darren), Heidi (Joshua), and Steve (Erin); her grandchildren: Brooklyn, Kaylee, Steven, Camryn, Blake, Judah, Ashley, Ty, Cohen, Evelyn, Hailee, Tanya, Tessa, Elise, Jaxen, Zaida, Carsen, Tyson, Eliah, and Jameson; her brother Henry (Margaret); her brothers- and sisters-in-law; many nieces and nephews; and a wide circle of dear friends.

Tally was predeceased by her parents, Klaas and Siebrech Schuurman; her husband Henry (2024); her brothers-in-law Dick, Andy, Sid, and John; her sisters-in-law Marie and Judy; and her granddaughter Mikayla Oldenburger.

While we will miss her deeply, we are thankful for the years we shared with her, the memories she leaves behind, and the lasting impact she had on all who knew and loved her.

“We grieve, but not without hope.” — 1 Thessalonians 4:13
