Born October 23, 1933, Trientje Renkema, daughter to Hendrik & Griet Renkema in the city of Haron, the province of Groningen, Holland. Tina came to Canada at 16 years old in 1949 with her family. She was predeceased by her two brothers Lucas & Albert & a dear Granddaughter taken too soon, Jennifer and a dear Grandneice also taken too soon Alexis.
They settled in Fort MacLeod where she met her husband, Len Maas. They were married on May 31, 1952, & proudly raised two sons Peter & Tim. Tina (Mom) worked at Thaells Men's & Ladies wear in Fort MacLeod for 32 years. Tina & Len (Mom & Dad taught us to work hard & to play hard. Work always came first but NEVER at the expense of Family. Much time was spent camping, fishing, motorcycling & snowmobiling. They were well known for "rollin" up the carpets & hosting a dance party or two. Much love & laughter in that home.
In her younger years to many boys on motorcycles in town, she was "Mom" as you would see her following the local riders in the 63 Ford Wagon laden with hotdogs, chips, pop & likely a bandage or two. Later as the boys got older, THEY would do the following after the bike with the sidecar as that is where she moved the picnic basket too.
Tina's goal after retirement in 1988 was to be retired for as many years as she had worked. She surpassed that goal by 2 years. She was very busy making quilts, loving her summers golfing, having many adventures with her Grandchildren Susan and Wendy, and fishing trips to the west coast with Len. Tina learned to play bridge over this time, and it became one of her favorite activities right up to a few months ago. She loved to play cards & enjoyed many games with friends in Fort Macleod and in California.
Dad (Len) passed in April 1999. A huge loss for the family, especially for Mom (Tina). However, a few years later, she was given a second chance at love & a wonderful life when she met Gordon Cleaver. Gordon had returned to his childhood hometown of Fort Macleod for a school reunion at which Tina was in attendance. Gordon very quickly swept her off her feet and took her back to his home in San Bernadino, CA. They were married on January 24th of that year and lived very happily for 20 years. They enjoyed much travel, RVing, and cruising. All the things they both enjoyed so very much. They adored one another. Gordon took exceptional care of his bride all these years.
Tina leaves behind - sons Peter Maas (Leslie), Tim Maas (Deb), Niece (daughter) Dixie Hedley-Charlebois (Joey), Grandchildren Nick & Daniel, Susan (Tristan), Wendelynn (William), Emily (Jeb) & Great Grandchildren Aurora & Morgan.
Many thanks to Dixie who was very important in "Auntie" Tina's life. More a daughter to her and a sister to us. Without her help over the past few years, we would have been lost.
Rest in Peace "Mom"
