Vivian Hughes Obituary

Vivian Irene Hughes, age 74,  died peacefully on April 8th, 2023 in Fort Macleod, Alberta, surrounded by her loving family.

Vivian is survived by her husband David Hughes, her three sons Brett Hughes (Karen), daughter Candice, Scott Hughes (Coleen) and children Taylor, Ashton, Katelyn; and Tim Hughes (Amanda) and children Lucas, Jordyn and Jaxon. Vivian is also survived by her sister Darlene Kereliuk and children Calvin, Sherry, and Caroline, as well as her brother Warren Wilson’s children Neil, Randy, Sandra, and Shane.

Her parents Leslie and Mildred Wilson and brother Warren Wilson preceded her in death.

Vivian was born in Shaunavon, Saskatchewan on November 21st, 1948.  She went to school at Creighton up to grade 8, Cadillac to grade 11, and finished her schooling in Vanguard, Saskatchewan in 1965.

Vivian was destined for a life of helping people. She started working in Ponteix at the hospital and then moved on to working in the Moose Jaw hospital.  She jumped at the opportunity to apply to the Galt School of Nursing, graduating in the class of 1971.  After graduation Vivian worked in various nursing roles in Fort Macleod for the next 42 years.  She also continued her schooling during this time and gained a degree in Nursing from Athabasca University.

Vivian was married to David Hughes on August 26th,1972 and together they raised three wonderful sons: Brett, Scott and Tim over the next 50 years. 

Vivian loved camping, especially camping with her grandchildren.  She also enjoyed travelling to places like Wales, England, Hawaii and most recently visiting eastern and western parts of Canada after retirement.

Vivian was well known for her cooking skills which she learned from Grandma Saunders, and her sewing skills which she learned from Grandma Wilson.  She enjoyed hosting many Christmas, Thanksgiving and Easter dinners and even published her own cookbook encompassing many family favorite recipes.

Vivian may have had a degree in Nursing, but she majored in family and will always be remembered as a loving woman, kind, giving, and caring.

 

A Funeral Service was held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at the Trinity United Church, Fort Macleod, AB. A  Graveside Service was held in the Union Cemetery, Fort Macleod, prior to a Reception at the Trinity United Church Hall. 

 

In lieu of flowers, donations in Vivian's name can be made to the Fort Macleod Handibus Society.
