Walter Hann Obituary

Walter Allen HANN

June 1, 1941 – March 25, 2024

Walter was born on June 1, 1941, in Lethbridge, AB as the 2nd oldest child in a family of eight, to parents Emil and Margaret Hann. He was raised on the family farm at Nobleford, attended the Noble Central School, and, like a lot of Nobloeford residents, worked at Noble Cultivators. He pursued his life-long career as a welder, which took him to work for Horton Steel, numerous other companies, and then to owning his own welding company. He spent more than 20 years as a welding instructor at the Lethbridge Community College, where he taught more than three generations of welders. He also took over the family farm at Nobleford until moving to Monarch to operate his welding company.

Walter fully retired in May of 2020, after which he moved to Macleod Manor in Fort Macleod where he resided until his passing. Macleod Manor supplied Walter with another wide range of friends during his last years.

His early years saw him deeply involved in sports as a basketball player, and then as a basketball referee for many years. He was a table tennis wizard, as some would find out the hard way, and a great fastball pitcher in his day. Walter was also a member of the Barons Elks for many years.

Walter was always up for a cup of coffee and a story. . . or two, as well as being part of most of the stories amongst friends. He will be missed by a wide range of friends.

Walter is survived by his sisters Betty Heppner of Pincher Creek and Isabel (Gordon) Knoch of Lethbridge; his brothers Ron (Mavis) Hann of Pincher Creek, Bill (Bev) Hann of Trenton, ON, and Ken (Lynda) Hann of Fort Macleod; brothers-in-law Marvin Knoch of Nanton, Al Duncan of Raymond, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Walter was predeceased by his parents Emil and Margaret Hann, sisters Dalene Knock and Diane Duncan, and nephew Christopher Hann.

Walter’s request for no funeral or memorial service will be honoured. His cremation has been entrusted to Eden’s Funeral Home in Fort Macleod.
