Today is a very special anniversary. Not one you might think of. But Joe taught me on this day, so many years ago, what forgiveness means. Thank you Joe, thank you Delle.

Dear Delle, Lorelei and Ellen,
My deepest sympathies to you and your families. I'll always remember kind and lovely Joe with his twinkling eyes and lovely smile.
We first met you at the Ibadan International School in Nigeria middle 1960s. You were our neighbours in the flat below. My dearest late husband and Joe had quickly formed a sound friendship as "expats" from North America.
We have enjoyed your hospitality at you home when we visited you at least once since then.
Sue and her family also join me remembering Joe and offering our deepest sympathies to you.
We will always remember dear Joe and cherish our memories of him! In sorrow, Gulten

Thank you, Gulten; that was indeed a memorable year we shared in Congi Layout, our home in the bush at Ibadan. As I recall Susie was the darling of our compound. Do you remember the time Sue stomped on a trail of driver ants that were traversing through our garden? What a trauma that was! And the time Jim's driver discovered the green viper under your Ford? Fortunately not in it. We were so busy with out studies, the boys jobs and running a household we took it all in stride. Thank you for remembering us, Gulten. Those were heady years.

So many memories - Jacquie and Mark with their funny little dog, the little girls fishing without hooks on their lines, hot tubing and of course, Matt, the years we shared as colleagues and friend. Thank you, Schebels.

Delle,
I just learned of Joe's passing. I am sorry for your loss, Your loss is the greater because of the man he was, and the length of time you shared with him.. Joe was well loved and appreciated, and I am so glad of the visit that Vi and I had with you and Joe last spring, at your home.
I wish now, that I had more visits with you and spent more time with you two.
I have memories that I treasure of Joe and you both from school and other ways , which will remain with me the rest of my life, and I share your loss.
Jim Smith.

My heart is full to bursting with love and appreciation for Joe - and for his family. Joe's strength of intelligence and character were hallmarks of his personality - If he was discussing something and had a point to make, it was measured and respectful, and fulsome and honest, and strove to help everyone expand their knowledge or their viewpoints. Quick to laugh and filled with joy. Joe will be remembered with deep fondness.
Take care of yourselves, family and friends near and far, who also loved Joe in the course of seasons changing.
Mary Lou

So sorry to hear of Joe's passing. I remember fondly the teacher and the neighbour. Many good chats were held with you. I am especially grateful for his treatment of my dear mother over the years as she was living alone. She sure did think you folks were grand. Time passes and your memories, I'm sure, will sustain you.
