Gordon Allan Mattson passed away on Wednesday, December 18 at the age of 74, he will be remembered by his wife Milma; Children Destinee, Tandis and Krystle; Grandchildren Caydince and Zoie; Siblings, Arnold (Vickie), Elaine (Richard ✝️)and Rodney (Loretta); along with numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Gordon was predeceased by his parents Erling and Martha Mattson, and his favourite Aunt Edna (Ted) Caswell.
Gordon was born in Medicine Hat, Alberta, and grew up in Hays where he found his love of livestock, Barrel and Stake racing, 4-H Beef Club and he was a Southern Alberta Grand Champion. Racing up and down the coulees with his horse Daffy was one of his favourite places to play. Cooking was another one of his hobbies, his famous Knepfla became a favorite meal to share with his family! His woodworking skills are evident in the furniture Gordon has in his home and pieces he made for his daughters.
Gordon went to school in Hays, then Vauxhall and onto SAIT where he studied computer programming. Gordon became a Commercial Beekeeper, worked at the Rogers sugar beet factory in Taber, a water hauler on the rigs and then an International Truck Driver; the border guards knew him by name; not sure if that was a good or a bad thing! Gordon always made sure to stop by Wendy's Dairy Bar in Vauxhall for some deep fried mushrooms and a real strawberry shake or chocolate shake. You could be sure to find salted peanuts and rosebud chocolates beside his chair with a western novel close by.
No funeral service will take place at Gordon's request. Cremation has taken place.
