The family of Irwin Durksen are sad to announce his passing on May 15, 2022. Irwin was born on April 21, 1951, to David Jr and Helen Durksen of Pincher Creek Alberta. Irwin leaves behind his wife of Fifty years, Denise, and his daughters; Sandra Helfrich (Cam) of Chilliwack and Stacey Durksen (Frank) of Cranbrook. Grandchildren; Morgan, Travis, Mackenzie, and Raychel.  Sister Dorothy McGladdery and Brother-in-laws Rick Lerik (Jackie), John Lerik (Darci), and many friends and family. Irwin was predeceased by his sister Carolyn, brother Robert and parents David Jr and Helen Durksen as well as his mother and father-in-law Vince and Stella Lerik.   Irwin worked at the MD from the age of twenty until his early retirement in 2008.  Irwin and Denise moved from Pincher Creek to Vancouver Island in 2009, first living in Campbell River and now in Sooke. One of his greatest joys was his horses before moving to the island, he was a true country boy.  Irwin enjoyed his retirement not only did he enjoy his fishing, but he and Denise enjoyed their yearly trips to Cuba or Mexico.  Irwin was an avid gardener and was always excited to talk about his plants and loved to brag about having to mow his lawn in November or that he had flowers in January when there was two feet of snow in Cranbrook & Pincher Creek.  He also enjoyed his woodworking projects which he kept himself busy tinkering on in the garage  We would like to express our deepest gratitude and thanks to the nurses and doctors at Victoria General and the Royal Jubilee hospitals that cared for Irwin.   We will be gathering to remember a wonderful Husband, Father and Friend. We invite you to share your memories and stories, to laugh, cry & remember Irwin on Saturday, August 27, 2022, at the Legion in Pincher Creek (upstairs) from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM.    Donations can be made to S.TA.R.S. Air Ambulance.   Arrangements were made through C.A.R.E. funeral services in Sooke and Eden's funeral home in Pincher Creek.
