Send flowers
James (Jim) Lloyd Howlett was born on November 13, 1953 in Beaverlodge, Alberta. to Murray Lloyd Howlett and Joyce Hilda (Stelfox) Howlett, and passed away on January 6th, 2023 in Lethbridge, Alberta. Jim was raised in Lumby, BC. Always an automobile enthusiast, he naturally gravitated to being a mechanic, which became his occupation for a number of years after high school. His interest in trucks never left and for years he drove truck through both Canada and U.S. He lived in Prince Edward Island for many years with his wife Janet. His last 25 years were spent in Alberta in several locations until his final move to Coaldale, where he was thrilled to be close to his son Darcy and their family. Jim was afflicted with a very severe bipolar problem. He finally achieved better quality of life with good treatment and was able to enjoy his later years without repeated flare ups. Jim became ill with an autoimmune disease that gradually destroyed his muscles and finally affected even his eating and swallowing, until his weakened body succumbed to pneumonia. The highlight of Jim’s life was a reunion with his son Darcy McNeil, wife Angie, and their two sons Josh and Tyler. Jim loved to share brags about those grandkids! His final outing was a meal with his family right before Christmas this year. Shortly after, he became ill and never recovered. Jim was preceded in death by his mother Joyce and brother Gary (age 3 1⁄2) in 1967, and his father Murray in 1973, and is survived by his son Darcy McNeil (Angie), and grandsons Josh and Tyler, his oldest sister Judy (Howlett) Robinson of Newberg Oregon, and younger sister Beverley (Howlett) Barsi of West Kelowna, B.C. Jim made his peace with God in his later years and some recently remembered him sharing thoughts of “that mansion in the sky”. Jim requested that when he died his ashes be buried with his brother Gary. That wish will be honored sometime this next spring. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Green Acres Foundation or the Coaldale Food Bank. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
