John “Grant” Armstrong passed on August 31st, 2026, after a long and difficult health battle.
Born in Calgary Alberta on June 19, 1950, he spent his childhood on a farm west of Parkland Alberta.
The family then moved to Calgary where he continued to live, work and make many friends for decades, with some short moves to Claresholm, AB and BC the big city had is heart. He would still go ride horses and visit the mountains and prairies but the call of the pool table was strong. That is where he met his lifelong friend Terry Bauer. She and her family became Grants city family including him in many events. A kindness that will never be forgotten.
Grant moved to Pincher Creek Vista Village when his health left him needing help. There he received kind and respectful care for a decade. This gave Grant time to rekindle a bond with his sister Lore Lee Bruder and her husband Richard Bruder who have lived in the Pincher Creek area for many decades.
Grants Ashes will be spread at the Winchester Cattle Co. south of town. Where one way looks at the mountains and the other the great prairie. There will be no formal service. No flowers please. Just show an act of kindness to a stranger and think of Grant with fondness.
A celebration of Grant’s life will be held on Saturday October 3, 2026, at the Winchester Cattle Co. (Highway 6 south of Pincher Creek, 1.2km west on Township Road 45A) starting at 2PM.
