Iinakookihkinaakii (Little Curly Hair Woman)

It is with heavy hearts and deep sorrow, we announce that our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend MARCELLA GRIER, “Little Curly Hair Woman” (Iinakookihkinaakii), of the Piikani Nation, was called home by Creator at the age of 63, on Sunday October 25th, 2026, at the South Health Campus in Calgary, AB.

Marcella, affectionally known as “Marcie” and “Mouse” was born on August 3rd,1963 in Fort Macleod, Alberta to Ernie & Bernadette Grier.

Marcella was born and raised on the Piikani Nation, she was a woman that lived life to the upmost extend, she had a fearless and adventurous spirit, embracing life with excitement, humor and a refusal to be tamed. She was unapologetically bold in who she was, and she wasn’t afraid of taking chances or standing her ground.

Before life took her down many different roads, in her younger years, she loved to play hockey and she was a cowgirl, growing up riding horses on her father’s ranch. She attended her primary and secondary school years in Fort Macleod. During life she attended college both in Lethbridge and Calgary, and worked numerous jobs where she acquired many skills, and spent 10 years as a bus driver on the Blood Reserve.

She enjoyed playing pool, going to bingo, loved her cats and was an outlaw with a big heart, who lived life her way, loved her own way and will be remembered in a way that could only ever belong to her.

Marcella is survived by her loving partner Daniel Weasel Fat, birth child James K. and son Bill (Miracle) Grier, and grandchildren: Tiara Grier, Ava Smith-Grier, Bill Grier II, Onessium Grier, Gabriel Grier, and Ezekiel Grier; Sister, Lydia Scott; Nephews: Normie & Wife Grier, Lenard “Lenny” (Linda) Little Bear, Byron “Tibbs” (Trish) Little Bear, Kenny Coon, Ernie Many Fingers, Justin Grier, Myron “Ronnie” Grier; Nieces: Ivy Scott and Kelly-Joe Scott and numerous great-grand nieces and nephews.

One of Marcella’s greatest gifts was her ability to create family wherever she went, she had an open and generous heart, who traditionally adopted kinship children, relatives and friends and called them sister, brother, niece, nephew and grandchild, such as (but not limited to) Liz Good Rider, Warren & Marie Morning Bull, Brenda Green, Rebecca Yellow Wings, Dolly Yellow Wings, Birdie Yellow Horn, Babette Bastien-Many Bears, Corine & Lacey Eagle Plum, Macey & Bethanee Tailfeathers, Heavon & Thanos Grier.

Marcella is predeceased by her parents Ernie & Bernadette Grier, daughter Ashely Grier, grandson Sun-Child Grier, brothers: Ernie Grier Jr., Levi Grier, Curtis Grier, Norman Grier, and Lucky Grier; sisters: Thelma “Tiny”Coon, Beverly Little Bear, Ann Many Fingers; brothers-in-law Ken Coon, Bobby Many Fingers and Kasey Scott.

Marcella was deeply loved by many, and in turn deeply loved many, the family apologizes for any names missed.
