It is with profound heartache that the family of Robert Ernest Volb announces his passing on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at the age of 72 in Lethbridge.
Rob was born on Friday, September 4, 1953, in Drumheller, Alberta. He was the second of seven kids belonging to Ernest and Annie. Growing up on Ploeg Street, Rob was always up for an adventure (and a little mischief) with his five sisters and one brother. After high school graduation in 1971, Rob was super excited to take his love of vehicles and engines to the next level by becoming a heavy duty mechanic. He attended SAIT and achieved this dream with great success!
1974 was the year that changed his life forever. He met his beautiful Jan, and embarked on a love story for the ages. Four years of letting their love blossom led them to become husband and wife on July 14, 1979. The happy couple packed up their things and started their next chapter in Lethbridge where Rob got a job at CASE Equipment as a heavy duty mechanic. The couple wanted a change in scenery, and it was only a few months until they found their forever home in the little town of Coaldale, and they moved for the last time!
Becoming a Dad was the absolute greatest joy of Rob’s life. April made her debut in April of 1980, and Meghan completed their family in April of 1983. He was a stellar dad; fun loving, engaging, not afraid to be goofy, and always there to lend an ear, hand, or the biggest hug. His heart somehow grew even more when they welcomed their two precious granddaughters into the world; Alice in June of 2012, and Abby in September of 2014. He was an extraordinary Papa.
Being a hard worker was always in Rob’s blood. When he started at ATCO in 1990, he was happy to put his head down and grind. He was a dedicated employee for 25 years finally hanging up his tools in 2015 to enjoy his retirement.
Rob’s favourite pastimes took him on many trips, whether it be camping or out on the open road cruising on his motorcycle. He loved karate too, and went on to earn the highest honour, his black belt!
We will miss his goofiness, his ability to laugh and love big, and his genuine kindness that he showed to one and all.
Rob is survived by his daughters April (Brock) and Meghan, his granddaughters Alice and Abby, sisters: Marlene Bixby, Florence (Alan) Hodgson, Shirley Morrow, and Linda Volb, and brother Andrew (Trish) Volb, sisters-in-laws Doris Wilde and Colleen (Jim) Guskjolen, numerous nieces and nephews, best buddy, Cliff Morrow, and many dear friends.
Rob was predeceased by his parents, Ernest and Annie, special Auntie, Elsie Shandera, father and mother-in-law, John and Eva Fehr, and older sister Mary Anne Hill.
Rob was reunited with his soulmate Jan 30 days after his passing, as she joined him in Heaven on August 27th. They are together once more as they were meant to be; two special angels watching over us from above.
