It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Adam Harkness, a devoted son, brother, uncle, and friend, whose life was shaped by hard work, loyalty, and a deep connection to those he loved.
Following proudly in his father’s footsteps, Adam found his calling in trucking. At just 18 years old, he left New Brunswick and headed west to Calgary. Drayton Valley to be exact; ready to begin building his life in the oil fields at Strike Oil Field. Those early days marked the beginning of a career and a journey that would define him. One filled with determination, lifelong friendships, and stories that would be told for years to come.
Like any young man finding his way, Adam quickly became the target of a few good-natured pranks from the seasoned crew. Though he may have started out a little naïve, it didn’t take long for him to learn, adapt, and hold his own, earning respect and camaraderie along the way.
During his time out west, Adam formed a special bond with his good friend Shawn. He became a constant and cherished presence in Shawn’s children’s lives, Hunter and his goddaughter Sophia. Adam took that role to heart, always showing up with kindness, laughter, and a genuine care that made a lasting impression.
Known for his thoughtfulness, Adam was an extraordinary gift giver. Time and again, he surprised family and friends with gifts that were not only generous but deeply personal, a reflection of just how well he knew and valued the people in his life.
Despite the distance, Adam never lost connection to home. On his trips back to New Brunswick, he often spoke about one of his greatest joys, his quad, and looked forward to the simple pleasure of being home, surrounded by familiar places and people. He looked forward to connecting with his NB friends.
Adam shared an especially close bond with his mother, Linda, lovingly known as “Linda Lu”, and his sister, April. Losing them before his own passing was a profound sorrow he carried. He also held a special place in his heart for his nephew Cameron, always offering guidance, support, and a steady presence whenever it was needed.
Adam was predeceased by his father John, his mother Linda, and his sister April. He will be deeply missed by his mother’s husband, Darryl; his nephew Cameron; as well as his aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends whose lives were touched by his generosity and spirit.
Adam will be remembered for his resilience, his loyalty, and the quiet but powerful way he showed up for others.
Arrangements are under the direction of Eden's Funeral Home with a burial service to follow at a later date in New Brunswick.
