It is with great sadness that the family of Amber Standing Alone - Eagle Tail Feathers, of the Blood Tribe, announce her sudden passing on July 28, 2023, at the age of 34.
Although life ended before we were ready, Amber Nicole Standing Alone moved on from this world, to join our ancestors in the Sandhills. Amber was perhaps one of the funniest people we ever met, she was a pleasure to know and hang out with. We know she would want us to live, laugh, crank up the music and tear down the house.
Amber was born at the Grace Women's Hospital in Calgary, AB on August 17, 1988, on a stormy thundering night. She attended the Saipoyi elementary school, Kainai Middle School and High School. She later went on to Adult Upgrading Program at Red Crow College after her three boys were born. Amber became a mother at a very young age, but was the best mom she could be, with the support of her mom and sister, Terry Jane, and all her siblings. On March 15, 2003, she was blessed with her first daughter Tionna Tishan Florine Standing Alone, then four years later she had Johnny (’07), Kass (‘10), Jr (’11), Nicolas (’14) – who when was born, her sister Terry Jane told her “So what, you ran out of names and decided to go with one of yours?” To which Amber replied, “No, there was a magazine right there when we were thinking of names, all I seen was Nicolas Cage and said, Nicolas!” She then had Adonis (’17), and after five boys, she finally got her baby girl, Aailaya in 2019.
As a child, Amber was full of energy and quite mischievous at times. Always getting into someone's purse or room. She was independent at a young age and always wanted to do things on her own. Amber was a great problem solver and always found resolutions to issues that would arise. With her friends and family, she was always there to extend a helping hand in any way she could, she was generous, loving and extremely humble.
Amber was a very caring and kind person, she was always worrying about her friends and giving them a place to stay, sleep, or just warm up. As a younger girl, she would always stick up for her friends and “always had your back.” There's no other way to put it, Amber was tough, it didn't matter that she had two older sisters often it was them telling her to chill out.
Amber had a special relationship with all her siblings, but she had an extra special relationship with her stepfather Del Jr. Amber was his protector, helper, and confidant. She turned to him for help when she was in need and never hesitated to text him when that time came.
Although Amber was baptized Catholic with her children, it was the way of Ihtsipaitapiiyo’p that she followed, she smudged daily and taught all her children how to pray and smudge in the native way.
So even though Amber left us before we were ready, we have to trust that she's with our loved ones that passed before us and they're welcoming her with smiles and hugs, carrying our love back to them while we continue loving her back here on Earth. Amber leaves us with seven children who when we look at, we will always remember our Amber Nick, through them all, especially her daughter Tionna who is a splitting image of her, and Aailaya who carries her personality so strongly, and in her boys, who were her pride and joy, she was so proud of her boys and will be immensely missed by all that knew and loved her.
