Lorna Jean Weekes

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Lorna Jean Weekes (née Sulava) who peacefully passed surrounded by family on January 2, 2026, following a prolonged battle with cancer.

Lorna was born on August 28, 1958, in Pincher Creek, Alberta to Elmire and Victor Sulava. As the eighth of ten siblings, Lorna fondly recalled her early life filled with family baseball and many shenanigans with her siblings. She reminisced frequently about playing volleyball at Lethbridge College and summer vacations at Wasa Lake. Lorna married Tom on November 12, 1988, residing briefly in Cowley before relocating to Pincher Creek.

Lorna was the devoted wife of Tom Weekes for 37 years, who was the love of her life, her steadfast companion and greatest supporter. Her greatest source of joy was raising her two children Jennifer and Michael. She was incredibly proud of Jennifer’s achievements as a family physician and Michael’s as a Professional Biologist. Lorna loved spending time with her family, whether it was watching sports or celebrating events. She valued family above all else and was a constant source of support to her siblings. Lorna’s life was marked with courage and resilience. She faced her battles with grace and always focused on putting others first.

Lorna is survived by her husband Tom; her daughter Jennifer; her son Michael (Emily); her siblings George (Sharon), Helen (Jack), Donna, Debbie, and Winney; her sister in law Pieternella (Jim); her brother in law Leslie (Lisa); brother in law Brian; numerous nieces and nephews as well as many friends who will treasure her kindness and spirit. A special mention to her sister Debbie, who was always a backbone of support and unconditional love. She was predeceased by her parents, Elmire and Victor; her sisters Patricia, Angela, and Rhonda; her brother Robert; and her brother in law Brent.

Lorna will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her compassion and devotion to her family will forever remain in our hearts. Lorna received truly exceptional medical care in Pincher Creek. Lorna and her family would like to extend their deepest thanks to Drs. Bev Burton, Marie DeCock, Ashley Rommens as well as all the staff at the Associate Clinic and Pincher Creek Hospital.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 9, 2026, at 11:00 at St. Michael’s Church. Casual dress requested. A light lunch will follow at the Pincher Creek Legion. Lorna asked that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Windy Slopes Health Foundation or Pincher Creek Food Bank.
