Vivian Ragan Obituary

Vivian Rose Ragan, beloved wife of Jim Ragan, passed away with her family by her side on May 10, 2022, at the age of 65 years.

Besides her loving husband Jim, Vivian is survived by her son Jesse and daughter Jaclyn (Brian) Hamilton, as well as her two adoring granddaughters, Jade and Devin Hamilton.  Also left to mourn are her sisters Joy Jensen and Gay (Jerry) Arnold, brother Leo Takasaki, and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her parents, Yukiharu "John" and Toshiko "Jean" Takasaki, and brothers Bob and Alan.

Vivian was born in Lethbridge on August 17, 1956, and grew up in Picture Butte, where she was a proud member of the Blue Sharks Swim Club.  Before moving to Lethbridge to finish high school, she met Jim Ragan.  They married in 1975 and maintained an exemplary relationship.  They started their family in Iron Springs, and moved to Enchant around 1990.  Following jobs as a certified insurance salesperson, then a gas plant secretary, Vivian started working as a teacher's aide at the Enchant School.  Staying within the Horizon School Division, she transferred to the Enchant Hutterite Colony, where she was welcomed and cherished at their school for several years.  She then returned to Enchant School, where she was employed until her passing.

Vivian was an insatiable reader, and a fortuitous card player.  Like her dad, she was a gifted fisherman.  Having impressive shopping stamina and a keen eye for sales racks and novel products, she would often return from Great Falls or Edmonton with thoughtful gifts for friends and co-workers.  With her love of music and Jim's love of surround sound, their favourite songs often filled the house.

Vivian was a devoted supporter of her children.  She and Jim were dedicated to attending every game, recital, and ceremony.  Above all, Vivian loved being a grandmother.  At every visit, she had special plans for activities and projects.  Between visits, her granddaughters enjoyed countless video calls during which she would read books and play games.  And of course, lettermail cards were the best surprise for Jade and Devin.

Vivian will be fondly remembered by the many, many people whose lives she touched.  She always had a kind word.  She was known for her warm enthusiasm and bright smile.  A rare calibre of loyalty and generosity came naturally to Vivian.  She is lovingly missed.

A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, May 19, 2022 at 1:00 PM, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, located at 4105 Forestry Ave. South in Lethbridge, AB, with Bishop Menin officiating.  A luncheon and celebration of life will follow.  A private inurnment in Mountain View Cemetery will precede the Memorial Service.
